Stumbling into AI

In 2018 I unexpectedly fell into a job working on my first AI product.

I was researching AI in the workplace when I stumbled on a chatbot that interviewed candidates.

I was skeptical. So I started playing with it, trying to break it. I succeeded and wrote about how to improve the user experience. Then I found every HR bot I could get my hands on and wrote about how to make them better.

That approach landed me a job at Mya, a startup that provided candidate screening chatbots for Fortune 500 companies around the world.

I loved the freedom of a startup and the ability to work beyond my role. On any given day I worked with clients, engineers, and leadership. That was the start of my AI journey.

Finding a fit in fintech AI

In 2020, I was hit by the big COVID layoff. After, I landed at Intuit where I’ve built conversational AI fintech products for the past 3 years. Working in a large organization took my design game to the next level. I design conversational AI experiences for hundreds of thousands of users (😅).

My specialty is aligning business and customer needs with AI solutions, using data to guide new designs and decisions. I also love to experiment and prototype.

Expanding my craft

In 2023, I became the first Principal Conversation Designer at Intuit. I completed a Data Science certification from General Assembly to improve my skillset for ML/AI product design.

Over the past 6 years, I’ve learned that building AI products requires a cross-functional approach. Designing products with generative AI requires new processes, new internal tools, and cross-silo leadership.

My work is a perfect blend of my skills as a designer, teacher, and creative technologist.
